Hi! We’re Russ and Maria Baker, and we’re so glad you’re here.
In 2013, we stepped onto Kenyan soil for the very first time during a short-term mission trip. We came expecting to serve for a season, but God had a very different plan. Kenya captured our hearts, and in 2019 we made the decision to leave everything behind and serve here full-time.
What began as a simple act of obedience has grown into something far greater than we ever imagined.
Our ministry started with one football team.
We invited around 30 young men to play, many of whom had been written off by their communities. They were battling alcoholism, drugs, depression, poverty, and hopelessness. Many had never experienced someone simply telling them, "I see you. You matter. You are loved."
That simple message opened doors to conversations about Jesus, and football quickly became much more than a game. It became the beginning of discipleship.
As these young men grew in their faith, we began walking alongside them through weekly Bible studies, mentoring, and life together. We watched God transform not only their hearts, but their vision for their own lives. They no longer wanted to simply follow Christ - they wanted to help others do the same.
Today, many of those same young men have become leaders within our ministry. They now make up our discipleship and evangelism teams, sharing the Gospel throughout Eldoret and the surrounding communities, praying with families, visiting villages, leading Bible studies, and introducing others to the same hope they discovered themselves.
Disciples became disciple-makers.
As the ministry continued to grow, so did the practical needs of those we were serving. Many of these young men needed meaningful work, stable income, and the opportunity to provide for themselves and their families. Through God's provision, our ministry expanded into agriculture, creating jobs while teaching valuable life skills rooted in stewardship, responsibility, and faith.
Today, our newly purchased farmland represents far more than agriculture. It provides employment, feeds vulnerable communities through food outreaches, and serves as another place where discipleship happens every day. The same young men who once struggled to find purpose are now cultivating the land, serving others, and sharing the love of Christ wherever they go.
Along the way, God continued opening new doors. Community development initiatives grew naturally out of the relationships we had built - school sponsorships, safe housing projects, widows' economic empowerment, children's Bible camps, clean water initiatives, and church planting all became extensions of one simple mission: to love people well and point them to Jesus.
At the heart of everything we do is relationship.
We believe Jesus met people where they were before asking them to follow Him. We strive to do the same - walking alongside people through life's joys and hardships, serving both physical and spiritual needs, and allowing authentic relationships to become opportunities for lasting transformation.
Our greatest prayer has never been to build a large organization.
It has always been to raise up Kenyan men and women who love Jesus deeply, lead with integrity, and become missionaries within their own communities and beyond.
We have no agenda beyond sharing the love of Christ, serving faithfully, and trusting God with the rest.
As we look to the future, our prayer is simple: that every life transformed through He is the Remedy will become another life that helps transform someone else.
Thank you for being part of this journey. Together, we are seeing lives changed, communities strengthened, and the hope of Jesus shared throughout Kenya.

A California Visit & a Divine Opportunity
While visiting California in November 2024, we had the joy of reconnecting with many of you—friends, churches, and longtime supporters who have faithfully stood with He Is the Remedy. We came not only to catch up, but to share something exciting and urgent: an opportunity to fuel our mission in Kenya through the purchase of a ministry bus.
Why a Bus?
As you may know, our BLAST Evangelical Team—Building Lives Around Sound Truth—has been serving across Kenya, bringing the hope of Christ to youth and remote communities. Whether through outreach events, discipleship, delivering food during drought, or organizing football matches that open doors for ministry, this team has become a powerful force for the Gospel.
But one barrier kept slowing us down: transportation.
Right now, we rent two vans, pay drivers, and cover high fuel costs just to move our footballers to away games. The same challenge affects every outreach trip and food delivery we attempt. It limits what we can do and how far we can go.

A Sustainable Solution
To solve this, we’re raising $35,200 USD to purchase a used bus—a reliable, long-term solution that would multiply our impact while reducing monthly costs.
Here’s what this bus would allow us to do:
🌍 Reach more remote villages with consistent discipleship and Gospel outreach
🚛 Deliver food and critical supplies to areas facing drought and food insecurity
⚽ Cut costs and provide safe transport for our youth football team
💛 Maximize our capacity to serve, while honoring every donor’s gift through wise stewardship
We are committed to financial responsibility, which is why we’re not purchasing new—we’re investing in something sustainable and cost-effective.
We’d Love to Meet You
While in California, we’ve been connecting with supporters in person and would love to keep the conversations going. If you, your church, or your fellowship group would like to hear more about what God is doing in Kenya—or how you can support the Remedy Fund, help fund the BLAST Bus, or explore short-term volunteer trips—we’d be honored to connect.
Simply reach out to us, and we’ll find a time.
How You Can Help
If you’d like to help us reach our $35,200 goal and get this bus rolling, you can donate directly to the BLAST Bus Fund at:

No gift is too small. Every donation moves us closer to reaching more people with the love of Jesus.
Thank You for Walking with Us
We are so grateful for the ongoing encouragement, prayers, and generosity we’ve experienced from this community. You are truly part of what God is building in Kenya.
Together, we are building lives around sound truth—and now, we’re believing for a bus that will carry that truth even further.
